W̱SÍḴEM: Tseycum First Nation is known in SENĆOŦEN as W̱SÍḴEM, meaning "Place of Clay," a reference to the clay-rich soils historically found in the area. The Nation is a W̱SÁNEĆ Coast Salish people whose territory encompasses the Saanich Peninsula, the southern Gulf Islands, and the surrounding waters of the Salish Sea.

Treaty: Tseycum is a signatory to the North Saanich Douglas Treaty, signed with James Douglas on February 11, 1852. In February 2025, Canada and BC signed a joint statement with Tsartlip and Tseycum recognizing W̱SÁNEĆ peoples as beneficiaries of the Douglas Treaties for the first time. The Nation continues to negotiate land and resource issues with BC outside the BC treaty process.

Population: Tseycum First Nation has approximately 206 registered members. The Nation's main reserve, Union Bay Indian Reserve No. 4, is situated at the centre of Patricia Bay on the Saanich Peninsula.

Location: The Nation is located at 1210 Totem Lane, North Saanich, BC, near Sidney on southern Vancouver Island. It is a member of the W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council, alongside Tsartlip First Nation.

Culture & Heritage: Tseycum traditions include fishing, reef-net fishing, shellfish harvesting, and travel throughout the Gulf Islands. Governance is guided by the wisdom of Elders and the ancient laws of XÁLS, the Creator. The Nation has worked to bring home the remains of 55 ancestors from the American Museum of Natural History, honouring its deep commitment to cultural continuity.
